Ky M. Kobayashi, MD

Dr. Ky Kobayashi is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in conditions affecting the hand and upper extremities. He has a Certificate of Added Qualification in Surgery of the Hand and Sports Medicine. Dr. Kobayashi specializes in hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder surgery including microvascular surgery, arthroscopy, traumatic reconstruction, and joint replacement.

Dr. Ky Kobayashi is a distinguished graduate from the US Air Force Academy and the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Connecticut as well as a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at Tufts Combined Hand Fellowship in Boston, MA. Dr. Ky Kobayashi retired from the United States Air Force in 2014 with many decorations after several deployments to combat zones. He has extensive experience in combat casualty care and reconstruction. He has been staff and assistant program director for the Wilford Hall Air Force Orthopedic Residency Program in San Antonio, TX. He is actively involved in research and education and is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Kobayashi was elected to serve on the Board of Specialties for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons as well as the Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons for education. He has been the team physician for the Air Force Academy Division I sports programs and is currently a consultant for the Olympic Training Center.

Dr. Kobayashi is a remarkable surgeon. Truly professional, with warm-hearted compassion & respect of the patient. I've had two issues come up in the recent few years, a torn shoulder and bursa of the elbow. The shoulder was first, and I was referred to Dr. Kobayashi by a friend who was a former patient. The concern & expert care I received from Dr. Kobayashi and his assistant, PA Dana Hubbard, was nothing short of outstanding, which reasoned the successful outcome. Because of the above, when I developed the elbow issue, Dr. Kobayashi was absolutely my first choice. Once again, he & Dana provided me excellent care, from initial evaluation, thru post-op to full release without restrictions. I can't say enough for all they did for me. Thank You both very much.

Really impressed by Dr. Ky and his staff. Every moment of every visit was dedicated to getting me returned to what I do. Dr. K focused on explaining my options and why he was recommending what he wanted to do, and his staff pulled out the stops getting it done quick. (I had my first appointment Thursday and they did surgery Friday.)Healing was quick and they were supportive the whole way. Worked with their hand OTs post surgery (Dani, Kelly) and they were the same way: absolutely focused on return to function. For example, there was a scheduling mix-up and they were able to get me seen and get me what I needed.These guys are a well-oiled machine. They see a lot of patients and are absolutely the most experienced in their fields. If you're looking for a hand surgeon, Dr. Kobayashi and his staff (including Dana, his PA) are the best I've worked with. Thank you Dr. Kobayashi, Dana, and staff!

Dr. Kobayashi took great care of my son whenever he needed emergency surgery. As someone who works for Dr. Kobayashi, I would trust no one else to take care of my son in this situation. I will always recommend him for care of patients as well as providing top-notch medical advice and expertise in any orthopedic situation. Not only did he take care of my son in a professional way, he made sure that he is able to return to all activities to include snowboarding and soccer. Dr. K. has performed several surgeries on me since 2010, all with outstanding results. Most recently (April 2024) he fixed a3X shoulder dislocation with rotator cuff, tendon and ligament tears that were causing elevated levels of pain. While repairing what he could, he inserted the Stryker Space Balloon into the joint. After a few days, I had no more pain. From my personal experiences as Dr. K,’s patient I trust his recommendations and his outstanding surgical skills implicitly. He, his assistant Dana, and the team have provided me excellent care over several years…they are the best.
