John A. Wallington, MD, a Cleveland Clinic fellowship-trained interventional spine physician, joined Orthopedic Associates in 2021. He is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Dr. Wallington, a native of Ann Arbor, MI, attended the University of Michigan where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in biochemistry and was awarded the Perrigo Fellowship to pursue natural products drug research. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and subsequently pursued a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI, serving as chief resident in his final year. He then pursued a fellowship in spine medicine at Cleveland Clinic where his training focused on non-operative treatment of neck and back pain. Dr. Wallington then practiced in Boston prior to joining Orthopedic Associates.

His clinical interest is spine evaluation and treatments including therapies, non-opioid medications, and injection-based therapies including epidurals, radiofrequency ablations, and deep joint injections under fluoroscopic guidance.

In his free time, Dr. Wallington enjoys skiing, tennis, hiking with his dog, and spending time with family and friends.

My results with Dr. Wallington have allowed me to maintain a level of activity that was not possible beforehand, notwithstanding I have many other painful joint related issues to deal with still. If not for his very competent treatment of my lower spine issues, I’m not sure how I would ever have been able to complete the physical therapy necessary after my recent left hip surgery and my upcoming right hip, right and left knee surgeries and my right foot surgery.
With virtually any surgery, the postoperative rehabilitation Is crucial to a successful outcome and for both my past and upcoming surgeries I can’t imagine the compromised outcome I would have experienced had Dr. Wallington not vastly reduced my back pain thereby enabling me to perform the necessary rehabilitation exercise regime.
Anyone with chronic back pain knows how debilitating and disabling it can be and how experiencing a high level of back pain while trying to rehabilitate other joints like hips or knees can compromise the rehabilitative process and therefore
result in a sub optimal surgical outcome. What I particularly like and admire about Dr. Wallington in addition to his high level of competence, is how obvious it is he’s concerned about patient welfare and I’m also impressed how well he interacts with staff and how it’s obvious he cares about and enjoys the company of his staff.
Lastly, he has that special and talented touch that seemingly all really top-notch doctors have in their ability to make the procedures they undertake as painless and effective as possible.
I guess I am particularly grateful to him since in the past with different treatment providers at other entities I have experienced vastly sub-optimal results for many different treatments and surgeries and so I now have a clear basis of comparison of inferior results to superior results and the contrast is remarkable.
OCC as a group Is widely noted for their exceptional competence and excellent outcomes. I am so grateful to have found not only Dr. Wallington but also other providers and staff who have assisted me.
