Dr. Jason Rovak is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with a fellowship and board certification in hand and microvascular surgery. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1998 with honors and highest distinction. He went on to medical school at Duke University. During this time he won numerous awards for research in peripheral nerve surgery, including a prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute research fellowship. He completed a residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis / Barnes-Jewish Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Hand and Microvascular Surgery at the Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore. Dr. Rovak joined Hand Surgery Associates in 2008. He is an active member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand as well as a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Rovak is an avid blues/jazz piano and guitar player with an interest in caring for musicians. Dr. Rovak has always had a fascination with aviation. He earned his private pilot license and his commercial license in 2020. He has an instrument rating and is working toward an instructor rating.

I was brought back to the exam room at my appointment time, met with the nurse who got my key information, and within 5 minutes Dr Rovak walked in. Unheard of promptness for a doctor’s office. Dr Rovak made a quick exam, we discussed options for treatment and the benefits and drawbacks of each, and put a plan in motion. I was in and out in probably 15-20 minutes. My medical situation was straightforward so that may account for the timing but I appreciate efficiency and expertise wherever it occurs.

I appreciated this appointment with Dr. Jason Rovak explaining from the x-rays dealing with a trigger finger. He explained the process of the injection of a steroid into the left ring finger. Hope the trigger finger is resolved in a month.

I was nervous going into the procedure with Dr. Rovak as he hasn’t performed many surgeries specific to my injury. I tore my bicep tendon and had to have it reattached. He performed the surgery with an experienced colleague which gave me more comfort. Nobody wants to be the test subject but in order to get better one has to have the opportunities. It’s been 4 months since the surgery and I got cleared for work. Normal heal time is roughly 5 months. Dr. Rovak had several one on one meetings with me as I healed and checked the progress by having me move my arm in a way that I could see and feel the tendon, thus removing any doubt that he performed the surgery competently, and confidently without having to get another MRI for proof beyond what I can see and feel.
As I think back when I met him, he had a gentle but confident nature, although I was worried in the beginning, the post care meetings and therapy results put to bed any doubt that Dr. Rovak is an excellent surgeon. Like any professional with these types of results, I have no problem giving him props - he deserves it.
