Jared L. Michalson, MD is an expert in the surgical treatment of knee and hip arthritis and fractures throughout the body.  He grew up on a corn and soybean farm in northcentral Iowa and incorporates that humble background and sense of community into the care of his patients.  His goal for patient care is simple: to utilize the latest and most proven nonsurgical and surgical methods to eliminate pain and restore desired function as quickly as possible.  Along the way, Dr. Michalson and his team work diligently to ensure that patients and their families fully understand the diagnosis, treatment options, and recovery.

Dr. Michalson is one of a small percentage of orthopedic surgeons who has dual fellowship training.  With fellowship training in orthopedic trauma, Dr. Michalson treats new and old fractures of the upper and lower extremities as well as the pelvis and is the Medical Director of Orthopedic Trauma at The Medical Center of Aurora.  Using aggressive and early surgical treatment when necessary and nonsurgical treatment when appropriate, Dr. Michalson approaches each patient and their injury carefully and uniquely to ensure the best possible treatment and outcome.

Dr. Michalson is also fellowship trained in the surgical treatment of knee and hip arthritis.  He specializes in outpatient knee and hip replacement, minimally invasive anterior approach hip replacement, robotic arm knee replacement, and partial knee replacement.  He also performs revision knee and hip replacement surgery for patients with prior knee or hip replacement who are having pain or limitation of function.  Using the most advanced surgical techniques and postoperative pain management strategies, his goal is for the quickest possible resolution of pain, resumption of work, return to driving, and re-engagement in normal life.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Michalson enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. They love the Denver area for its outdoor activities, the many dining options, and its wonderful museums.  He additionally enjoys golfing and fishing in his spare time.

I understand that a human must input the info if it's done on paper, but it was a very, very long hour and a few minutes to do what I could have done in 15 minutes on paper. I previously was experiencing pain in my right hip. I had a hip replacement done 8 years ago by Dr. Michaelson and was concerned that it was failing.
I received x-rays of my hip area and the Doctor didn’t find anything out of place. He informed me that I had an aggravated Bursa sack in the general area and suggested a shot to calm it down. I was feeling back to normal so I declined the shot. Dr. Michaelson did inquire about my knee pain and suggested shots in my knees to alleviate the arthritis pain which I did accept. My knees are feeling some improvement, but I think I will have to start getting them more regularly.

Dr Michalson is a great doctor. He did my total knee and he’s doing my second total knee in a few months. He and his team answered questions and concerns in a timely manner. He really explained the surgery to me and my other noninvasive options. I like that he doesn’t push surgery and he does push noninvasive options first. Sadly, they just didn’t work for me. He also understands knee surgery, because he has had one himself! Definitely check him out, ask questions. He’s very patient and honest and has a great bedside manner. I’ve met 2 of his PA’s and they are also very knowledgeable, well trained and very patient and kind. His medical assistant (who brings you back) is so busy and she rocks at everything she does. They have a really great team.

Once again Dr. Michalson put me at ease. After having hip replacement surgery , revision #2, I thought I might need revision #.3, because I lost my balance and fell down 4-5 concrete stairs at a friends house::
I was sore for a few days, but not in the hip. The soreness was from bruises on my bottom. I feared the worst, but Dr, Michelson relieved my fears when he compared two X-rays, one taken immediately after the surgery,, and the other taken moments after my arrival at his office. Dr. Michalson did my total knee replacement surgery on Aug.12, 2024. He did a fantastic job! I'm almost at 3 weeks post-op and have almost no pain. There is very little swelling or bruising in my leg as well. He has always been concerned for my well-being. I met with him in January and xrays showed I basically needed both knees replaced, but my BMI was over 50. I weighed 324 lbs at the time. Which put me at way too high of a risk for surgery. Dr. Michalson was very encouraging and really got me concentrating on losing weight. Pain and a great surgeon are powerful motivators. By my surgery date on August 12th, I had lost 77 lbs. The surgery went very well and I am doing fantastic! Everything about the surgery and recovery have been far better than I ever anticipated! In a few months, I'll be getting the left knee done and you can guarantee that I will only let Dr. Michalson do it!

Dr. Michalson did my hip and pelvis surgery. When I was told I was having the surgery I was informed there were a lot of risks involved with the procedure. A year now after the surgery I couldn’t be more thankful that Dr. Michalson was the one to perform my procedure. Due to a freak accident I found myself with a fractured tibia. I went to a different practice and that Dr called Dr Michalson who made sure I was in his office the next day and he had me admitted to the hospital that evening and preformed surgery the next afternoon. The whole process has been painful and overwhelming. But him and the staff at the offices are absolutely amazing and attentive. I really appreciate everything they all have done for me and are continuing to do to make sure I recover fully from this.
