Dr. Benjamin Mitchell is a fellowship trained Orthopedic Spine Surgeon who specializes in adult degenerative conditions, adult and adolescent deformity, traumatic spine injuries, motion preservation surgery, and primary and secondary spinal tumors. He is able to utilize minimally invasive techniques with robotics and navigation as well as perform open surgery, depending on the patient’s needs. He has a passion for providing individualized treatment plans through close collaboration with his patients and fellow physicians. Dr. Mitchell’s goal is to make each patient feel as though they are being treated as family.

Dr. Mitchell completed his medical training at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington DC. He then went on to complete his orthopedic training at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. After completing residency, he moved to Miami, FL where he served as a fellow in orthopedic spine surgery at the University of Miami Hospital where he worked closely with Dr. Frank Eismont, a nationally recognized leader in spine surgery.

“My primary goal is to take excellent care of my patients by listening to their distinct needs and creating individualized treatment plans for them. Whether this is surgical or non-surgical treatment, I help patients feel positive impacts through their treatment. As an orthopedic provider I want to be fully invested along with my patients in their functional recovery and pain relief.”

He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and is an active participant in numerous educational conferences and meetings including North American Spine Society and Cervical Spine research society. Outside of work Dr. Mitchell enjoys the outdoors, maintaining an active lifestyle and spending time with family and friends. He loves to play tennis, golf, hike, and ski in his free time. Originally hailing from Kansas City, he is also a lifelong Chiefs fan.

Overall, my experience with Doctor Mitchell‘s office has been extremely pleasant informative and makes me feel better. Doctor Mitchell is very nice friendly. He is very knowledgeable and spends a lot of time explaining exactly what’s going on and what he thinks should be the forward plan his coordinator Haley is very efficient. Very nice. Does a great job if I have a question she gets right back to me so I am I’ve been very happy with the Doctor Mitchell‘s office and would definitely recommend Doctor Mitchell to anyone who has any kind of orthopedic problems.

Dr. Benjamin Mitchell, is a 10 out of 5 stars he is empathetic, listens with intent, patient and explains treatment carefully clearly and makes sure you understand options,treatment,and recovery in a caring friendly and professional manner always in a most respectful way. His accomplishments and successful surgical record speaks for itself. His understated confidence and ability put me at ease even though the back and spine surgery I am do to have soon is complex,serious, and requires hours of surgical time. It has now been 6 months and I feel great I have been going to PT for approx 3 months, I can sleep and I am able to walk further and do many of the activities I was unable to do before surgery. I had an appointment with Dr. Mitchell yesterday on 4th of August and he gave me the approval to do what I feel comfortable with and no restrictions. So my wife and I can travel and resume a fun and normal life. Dr. Mitchell was wonderful! When we met he went over everything going on with my spine and he explained what he thought would be the best course of action. I went back and spoke with him a couple more times and he was always patient with me and all my questions! I decided I needed to do the L4L5 fusion. Surgery went well and I can walk again and no pain! I would highly recommend Dr. Mitchell!

I needed an urgent referral from my PC doctor to see an orthopedic spine specialist regarding intense, debilitating pain caused by Spondylolisthesis. I met with Dr. Benjamin Mitchell at OCC yesterday and I came away feeling that I will be well taken care of. The front desk staff and Medical Assistants were warm, welcoming, and very helpful. My X-rays were taken immediately and Dr. Mitchell clearly explained which slipped vertebra was causing the pain, etc. He laid out his plan of action for treatment, listened attentively, and projected reassuring confidence in how to address my condition. He was kind, empathetic, and caring. I had specifically requested to see Dr. Mitchell and I am so glad I did. Thank you!
